The partnership between Microprocessador and Tabaqueira, a subsidiary of Philip Morris International, began in the late 1990s, when Microprocessador was still part of the Efacec Group. Since then, this collaboration has been consolidated and strengthened over the years.
The first project developed within the scope of this partnership involved implementing an automation solution for the warehouse at the Tabaqueira factory in Lisbon. From that point onward, the partnership evolved into a continuous development of innovative automation solutions across various systems and operational areas within the company.
These solutions have been implemented across different levels of the value chain. In the primary sector (support activities), notable interventions include the automation of raw material reception processes. Through global departments such as Leaf — based in Portugal — Tabaqueira manages and promotes good agricultural practices, as well as the sourcing and acquisition of raw materials in Portugal and several European countries.
In the secondary sector (core operations), automation solutions support the industrial processes that transform tobacco into finished products.
In addition to industrial automation projects, Microprocessador has also delivered software development solutions in areas such as energy management and logistics management systems.
Tabaqueira is the largest tobacco company in Portugal and, since 1997, a wholly owned subsidiary of Philip Morris International. Located in Sintra, the company employs more than 1,000 people and exports approximately 90% of its production to international markets.
This successful partnership with Tabaqueira has enabled Microprocessador to participate in several international projects with its parent company, Philip Morris International.
